The Layout of Tetris Board

 


Specifications of Original Tetris and the games developed based on Tetris today find lot of differences and changes amongst them. The original board had 200 cells i.e. 10 columns and 20 rows but today different versions of Tetris & games developed as per the concept have different layouts altogether.

The basic Layout of the board is as follows:

The Building Blocks


The basic shapes used in original Tetris game is J, O, L, I, S, Z, T, but with advent of world wide web, secondly popularity of the game lot many versions of the game are available to be played either on net, online, play stations or on pocket and TV video games. Today to attract gamers fruits, colorful blocks, circles and many other shapes are available along with different layouts and ways of playing.

The Standard Playing Controls


World wide the game has changed in terms of shapes, speed, design but the player controls remain more or less the same for all.

The tiles or blocks as we call them are moved right and left by Right and  Left arrow keys. The up Key changes the shape upside down or horizontally / vertically as per the player wants it to fall in the playing area or connect to other lying block/tile in the playing area. The down key if pressed drops the tile/block speedily in the same direction it was falling in.

PETRIS says watch your blocks/tiles change the variation and directions quickly and also keep and eye on the shape of next incoming block/tile.

Block/Tile Landings


The tile/block falls in the same row and same column when it enters the playing area unless player changes the row/column or the landing face of the tile/block with the help of arrow or navigation keys. Once the tile/block falls on the floor of playing area it remains right there and can not be moved from that position. PETRIS says watch where the blocks are landing and change the landing area and facing of the tiles/blocks as per game plan. else you will be stuck with a non playable static layers of tiles/blocks. also remember from the following information on the rows/columns covered by the blocks/tiles on the playing area.

O takes 2 rows max. when it lands.
L takes 3 rows and 2 columns when it lands.
J takes 3 rows and 2 columns when it lands.
I takes 4 rows and 1 columns when it lands.
S takes 2 rows and 3 columns when it lands.
Z takes 2 rows and 3 columns when it lands.
T takes 2 rows and 3 columns when it lands.

Scoring Points


Petris says when you complete more than 2 rows in one go you get bonus points and also you can score heavily in this manner. As tipped earlier keep your eyes wide open on next block/tile coming into play after the current tile/block lands. It can be viewed in side screen and you can choose the place on the paying area where to land the existing tile/block to ensure it does not block rows. Blank spaces created due to Z, S and remaining in the same manner on playing area in static mode can lead to loss of points and also early finish of the level. And yes keep your fingers ready to move be fast and innovative.
