The idea of Tetris came from an ancient Greek puzzle
game, Pentaminos which involved placing and arranging
puzzle pieces made of 5 squares. The idea of having so
many 5 square pieces, and arranging them on the board
was cumbersome and not an easy task to implement on
video/pc game based environment. With some changes in
game strategy and puzzle pieces, changes in methodology
of the game Tetris was born. Petris...your loving friend
and guide on play Tetris takes you on an never ending
trail of Tetris the game.
In
1985, Two Russian computer engineers (Alexey
Pajitnov and Dmitry Pavlovsky),
and there thoughts brought in a revolution called
Tetris for pc gamers world wide. A revolution that would
stay and spread the game further on for ages and will
become immortal. A game which will be loved, liked and
worshipped by players all around the world for n number
of generations to come. Did I tell you,
I am also addicted to the game. Yes me
Petris that's why I have taken the
ardent task of spreading the world of Tetris further in
cyberspace. Alexey and Dmitry wanted to develop computer
games and market them as they felt computers should be a
link to entertainment of computer users also. Thus after
many months of thoughts, planning and research in
June,1985 the very first computer based game TETRIS was
born, on Electronica 60 machine. But there was more to
come in near future as the idea of these two men was
about to change the computer and video gaming world and
also the research, development and fine tuning of the
game, TETRIS.
In 1985-1986, Vadim
Gerasimov, a 16-year old high-school student who worked
at the academy , ported Tetris to the IBM PC running the
MS-DOS operating system. The final version of the
original, pre-commercial release of the PC version of
Tetris is available on Vadim's web page (M.I.T.)
Currently on world wide web there are various sites
offering online as well as download and play versions of
Tetris and, Tetris look alike games. For more details on
